From the time of the industrial revolution, developed countries have burnt uncountable amount of coal, gas and petrol and are highly dependent on these sources. The most advanced societies are the most vulnerable ones; particularly the cities where nowadays live 80% of the European population. The system is imposing on us increasing energy consumption. These trends are unsustainable and black-outs are not so far! Fortunately, local authorities and actors (amongst which a number of good practices from Energie-Cités member cities) start to take action and step by step gain the energy, water and other resources autonomy on their territories – a real revolution!
